The club’s project activities were kicked off in style in the very first month of the Rotary year, with donation of artificial limbs (flagship continuous project of the club) on 24th July, 2015. Earlier when Rtn Ramki identified 4 beneficiaries in need of elbow crutches and calipers and the cost was estimated to be about INR 16,950, Rtn P G Kuppuswamy spontaneously rose to the occasion by announcing 100% sponsorship of this project.
Club members Rotarians K Suresh, K V Krishnan, Ravindran, R Krishnamurthy, S Venkatraman, and P G Kuppuswamy, led by President S Krishnan represented the club at Prabhavati Devi Trust school at Guduvancheri where the event to donate the calipers and elbow crutches was organised on 24th July, 2015.
The beneficiaries were 3 students (2 from 10th Std and one from 11th Std) one teacher Ms V Sudha – from Prabhavati Devi Trust school at Guduvancheri mentioned below:
1. K.Babu (10th Std) – A pair of Specilsed shoes for the foot
2. Smunuswamy (11th std) – a pair of Calipers
3. M. Vimla Balaji (10th std) – an Elbow crutch
4. Ms V Sudha (Teacher) – pair of Calipers
Prabhavati Devi Trust school is run by the trust and education is free. The school is affiliated to the State Board and has classes from 1st Std to 12th Std. The students are from nearby localities who are day scholars and some from nearby villages who are hostelers at the school premises. In addition the school also has a special school for Hearing Impaired children managed by a special educator.
Rtn Kuppuswamy has sponsored the entire cost of the project amounting to Rs 16950. The club members place on record their deepest appreciation to Rtn Kuppu for his philanthropic gesture. Mr Mohan of Andhra Mahila Sabha was instrumental in identifying the beneficiaries and also arranging to make the artificial limbs. The club thanks him profusely for coordinating the project.
